Devotional | Who Do You Think You Are?
A brand new life emerges when you give your life to the Lord, and you become a brand new person. In your born-again spirit, you’ve been recreated in the image and likeness of God.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
Identity confusion can destroy your purpose and derail your destiny. As a believer in Christ, you need to be free from identities imposed by others, be rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ, and believe who HE says you are.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
Life Purpose For All Believers
Believers are called to be light and salt and to bring truth and revelation to a lost and dying world. You’re the city that has been set on a hill. Jesus puts you in places to bring light, truth, and instruction with you.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16
You have become a brand new person in Christ. You have been transformed from your old, fallen identity in Adam to your new spiritual identity in Christ.For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. Ephesians 5:30
And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
Importance of Identity in Christ
God has a good, prosperous, and blessed plan for each one of us. Your identity—who you are or believe yourself to be—is directly connected to your purpose.
There is freedom in knowing that God created you exactly the way He wanted you—different from others and unique to your own calling. When you embrace your new identity, you connect to your purpose, which brings fulfillment and passion for life. God designed your personality, nature, and even body type to match your divine purpose.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
Your identity sets the rhythms and patterns of your life, it influences your lifestyle and habits. For example, a doctor, electrician, or tennis player would have taken very different routes in life to develop the skills necessary for accomplishing their goals and fulfilling their purposes.
God is your Creator and He has ordained you for a unique purpose. Identity confusion can damage your personhood and destroy your purpose.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth. Genesis 1:27-28
God made man in His image and His likeness. He gave us dominion over all of creation, but not over our identity. Discover the new YOU! Your authentic self created by God before the foundations of the world.
