Devotional | Where Do These Thoughts Come From?
God is never the source of guilt or condemnation. His unconditional love and grace through Jesus cover our shortcomings and give us freedom from condemnation and shame. Here are four sources of condemnation and their cures to help you overcome thoughts of guilt and shame.

1. The Law
The purpose of the law was never to create condemnation, but to reveal sin and drive people to Jesus Christ.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4
Condemnation VS Conviction (Old Covenant vs New Covenant)
Condemnation pushes you away from God but Conviction draws you closer to God.
Cure: Faith in Jesus Christ and His grace.

2. Our Own Hearts (conscience)
My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God. And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 3:18-23
Our call to live a holy life is not to earn God’s love or acceptance, but is a result of our new nature in Christ.
Cure: Repentance and receiving forgiveness.

3. Others
This could include parents, children, religious people, culture, politicians, teachers, or leaders.
Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. 2 Corinthians 7:2-3
No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord , And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord . Isaiah 54:17
Cure: Reject the condemning words spoken against you.

4. The Devil
Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:10-11
Cure: The blood of the Lamb, the word of our testimony, and not loving our lives unto death.
