In a world filled with deception, God’s truth has the power to liberate you. As you immerse yourself in Scripture, you’re not just gaining knowledge, but being transformed. When you ask God to reveal His truth, it will wash over you, setting you free from misconceptions and false beliefs. You can become a “student of truth” by dedicating time—whether you have a lot or a little—to studying God’s Word and allowing it to shape your worldview.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32 NKJV

If you dedicate yourself to spending time with the living Word of God, His promise to you is this: knowing truth and freedom. Your intentional decision to dig into the Word will change what you see and how you see it. Your point of reference becomes God’s Word, not the evening news or the alerts on your social media. Your first thoughts will be of truth, because you have His truth in your mind and heart. And your first reaction will be freedom from fear or anxiety, because you know what God says is true.

God’s plan for your spiritual growth involves personal study, but it also involves learning from others. He has given the following gifts to the church—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—to equip believers for service and to help them mature in faith. You can be equipped (mentored) by someone personally, or through teachings, social platforms, or other sources from trusted five-fold equippers.

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:11-16 NKJV

The trickery of men and the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, are very prevalent in our current culture. There is a great deal in our world that is not rooted in Christ. The Word encourages you to develop a keen sense of discernment grounded in God’s truth without becoming cynical. You may want to reflect on how you consume information and whether you are filtering what you hear through the lens of scripture. By deepening your knowledge of God’s Word, you will easily be able to identify what aligns with truth and what doesn’t. Be prepared to stand firm, because the truth is not popular these days.

As a follower of Christ, you’re called not only to know the truth but to speak it in love. This balance of truth and love is essential for building up the Body of Christ and being an effective witness in the world. Speaking truth without love can be harsh and repelling; sharing love without truth can lack substance and direction. God knows we need truth spoken in love, in other words, “seasoned with salt” (Colossians 4:6) to further His Kingdom. You are bringing flavor and preservation to those around you who need freedom and hope. As a vessel of both truth and love, those in your sphere of influence will be drawn to your integrity and kindness. Once they have sampled your “saltiness,” you can simply point them to Jesus.

A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness. Proverbs 15:1-2 NKJV

Speaking truth in love requires wisdom, courage, and compassion. Proverbs 12:19 is a reminder that truthful lips endure forever while lying tongues last only a moment. Speaking the truth in love is a delicate balance that reflects Christ’s character. It involves communicating God’s truth without malice but with genuine care for others’ well-being.

As a believer, you are called to preserve and proclaim truth in a society that often rejects absolute moral standards. Be encouraged to anchor your life and decisions in the unwavering truth of God’s Word. The journey toward freedom starts with a single step. Take that step today.
