Devotional | Is There a Right and a Wrong Way to Pray?
Everybody prays, even hypocrites, but many people find prayer frustrating due to the lack of “results.” Often we don’t pray because we don’t see the need or we don’t understand our partnership with God.
‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.’ Proverbs 13:12
‘And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.’ Exodus 25:8

God saved and forgave us so we could have a relationship, and fellowship with Him on a daily basis. He delights in answering our prayers and He is committed to us in a personal relationship. Prayer allows us to see His power on the earth, His promises manifest, and His will be done on this earth as it is in heaven.

Prayer is fellowshipping with God, and getting to know Him in a real relationship. He wants to be friends with us, and prayer is a vital part of our relationship—communication. Every healthy relationship is based on communication. God is the ultimate communicator, and He wants to fellowship with us.
‘What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?’ Psalms 8:4

God loves us AND He likes us. He created us unique and special and He designed us for fellowship with Him. Adam co-labored with God. That was God’s plan from the beginning—man and God working, walking, and talking together.
Busyness is the number one enemy of intimacy. There is so much competing for our time, attention, and focus. God is also competing for our time because He wants to be with us. God wants to develop a relationship with us.

Jesus found prayer to be a necessity, not an option. He did not disregard the power and importance of prayer. Spending time with the Lord is vital to our relationship, and vital to our effectiveness in prayer. If Jesus modeled a dependency on the Father, how much more do we need to depend upon the Father? If Jesus took time to be alone in prayer, we also need to make time to be alone with the Lord in prayer.
There are different kinds of prayer for different situations.

Here are some different kinds of prayer listed in Scripture:
Prayer of faith
Prayer of agreement
Prayer of petitions
Prayer of intercession
Praying in the Spirit
Praying with thanksgiving
Meditation
With so many things competing for our attention, prayer is how we stay tethered to the heart of God.
