Jesus was preparing His disciples for what was coming; He reminded them of the treatment He had received during His short time of ministry and they could expect nothing less. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33) His brother James echoed that thought in encouraging the followers of Jesus with these words: “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:” (James 1:12-13) Later, James tells us not to be misled, because whatever is good and perfect comes from God, Who never changes. (James 1:16-17)
